Thierry Henry - Arsenal Years

After being unsettled at Italian football club Juventus, Arsene Wenger brought him to Arsenal, where he has been outstanding ever since. Wenger paid £11 Million to bring Henry to Highbury. Henry replaced Nicolas Anelka, whom the Arsenal manager had sold for more than £20 million; this has now proved to be great business by the Arsenal manager. Wenger's decision to play Henry as a central striker was seen by many to be a masterly one. In his first to seasons at Arsenal he proved to be a revelation in the role as central striker in his first two seasons at Arsenal he notched up a total of 48 goals and was now regarded as one of the deadliest strikers in Europe. His outstanding performances for Arsenal during the 2000/01 season earned him the accolade of PFA Young Player of The year. The 2001/02 season witnessed Henry at his best, scoring a terific32 goals of which 24 came in league matches, he helped Arsenal to win the premiership and the F.A Cup, his season ended in disappointment however as onfy - vitamine für kinder France were knocked out in the first phase of the 2002 world cup. After being crowned top scorer in the premiership during the 2001/02 season, Henry continued to shine at Arsenal in the following season. He scored a total of 32 goals in the 2002/03 campaign and helped Arsenal once again to an FA Cup triumph at the hands of Southampton, the surrendered the premiership however to Manchester United. His most successful season in front of goal undoubtedly came during the 2003/04 season, Henry collated a total of 30 premiership goals and 9 other goals in cup competition, resulting in a total of 39 goals, that was enough to earn him the European Golden Boot in 2004 and help Arsenal once again win the premiership, he was beginning to emerge as an all time cult hero, in only his fifth year playing for Arsenal. After a terrific start to the 2004/05 season, Henry was still deadly in front of goal; another 30 goals in all competitions by the end of the season earned him the European Golden boot for the second year running and the Premierships top scorer for the third occasion. Arsenal however were less fortunate in form as they struggled to second place in the premiership and there only consolation was beating Manchester United in a penalty shoot out to win the FA Cup. Arsenal and Henry were outstanding in the champion’s league during the 2005/06 season, helping them reach the final. After the departure of Patrick Viera in the summer of 2005, Arsene Wenger installed Henry as the new captain, and his leadership was evident throughout the season. A landmark in Thierry Henry's Arsenal career came on 18th October 2005, this was the date when Henry became the club's leading goals corer of all time, and a double against Sparta Prague ensured that he surpassed Ian Wright’s record of 185 goals. Another date for Henry to landmark is the 1st of February 2006, Henry secured his status as Arsenals leading league goal scorer of all time when he notched up his 151st league goal against West Ham, in turn breaking Cliff Bastin's Arsenal league goal scoring record. His skill does not just come from his knack of scoring goals, he is also awesome at creating goals, and he contributed to a total of 23 assists in the 2002-03 season which is a premiership record. Henry helped Arsenal overcome Wigan on the last day of the 2005/06 Season, scoring a hat-trick which secured Arsenals position for a birth in the Champions league for the 2006/07 season. Henry helped Arsenal reach the Champions league final; a great goal in a match against real Madrid secured them a place in the quarter finals. He also scored against Juventus in the quarter finals to secure their passage to the champion’s league final. Arsenal lost the final match 2-1 and Henry will be looking to build on his career during the 2006/07 campaign.
